serine
Despite its fragility, serine is essential for our bodily existence. These building bricks of life are fundamental components of proteins and other macromolecules, which in turn provide support for our complex internal architecture.
My initial observation of the "incomplete" layout of these molecules prompted me to think that the Van der Waals force, the inter- and intramolecular forces, the electrostatic interactions, and the chemical bonds that determine this spatial arrangement are extremely vulnerable to
environmental factors.
The first image in the series shows clusters of molecules that, like computer generated graphics, snakes that crawl through space and steal the spotlight against the black background. The following images lead us progressively to contemplate the other main features of this amino acid, and warn us that, despite its important biochemical functions and just like a high-performance precision lens, their function can be impaired by its fragility, chemical in the case of the molecule and mechanical when talking about a lens.
I can not remain indifferent before their plasticity and chromatic range, mixed with sudden absences of color and with the broken shapes they trace through the microspace.
In spite of its shortcomings and imperfections, life always finds a way. This is a highly-evolved organic molecule which acts as a warning sign: we are but fragile humans in a fragile world.
