I feel admiration and fascination when contemplating this fundamental neurotransmitter of our central nervous system and brain. In addition to this, dopamine acts as a hormone for our endocrine system. Our movement, learning, memory, and emotions hinge on its working correctly, as do many other processes. It is the subject of research in neuroscience, psychiatry, psychology, 

philosophy, endocrinology, and several other scientific disciplines. Its presence in our lives is too central for us to ignore it or mismanage it, for any alteration of its levels and biochemical processes may unleash serious diseases.

 

Like nebulae, where stars are formed and come to life, is how I perceive these enigmatic images of dopamine: the birthplace of our knowledge, memories, motivations, arousals, and emotions.

This is very likely to be the lead actor in the mental processes of aesthetic, emotional, and cognitive experiences: of the author of these photographs as well as of anyone now watching them.
